There are two kinds of people in the world: Cake People and Pie People. (Now I’m imagining people made of cake and I’m hungry. Mmm…) You can love both, but you have to come down on one side or the other. I’m a cake girl. It’s the dessert of celebrations. It can be comforting or sophisticated. And the frosting! Sugar and butter, guys–what else could you want?
My fiance is a pie guy. For his birthday last year, I made a blueberry pie. (For mine, I went for red velvet cupcakes.) This is one issue we’ll never settle.
While I’m really looking forward to the cake tasting part of planning a wedding, I’m also digging the trend of serving pie instead of (or in addition to) the traditional cake. I haven’t been to a wedding with pie so far, but weddings like this one make pie seem like a cool option. I’m guessing the potential for mess might increase, but they look so rustic and cozy it’d be worth the risk.
Anyone taking any other dessert chances? Cupcakes, candy, tarts?

(I can’t leave work for another 30 min, but have NOTHING TO DO. So I’ll continue browsing your blog.)
We’re going “traditional” on the brides cake. Red velvet with cream cheese frosting is what I realllyyyy want. I think we’re doing cake balls for the grooms cake, though & I’m really excited about that!
(Any time I can help someone get through the end of the work day is a victory for me.)
I’m pulling for red velvet too! There’ just something about it. And cake balls sound like an AWESOME addition as a grooms cake.
